Michael Martin was born in Montreal, Quebec and was called to the Quebec Bar in 1976. He completed his collegial studies at Neuchâtel Junior College and pursued his studies at McGill University where he received his B.A. in 1971 and his law degree in 1975. He is mainly involved in corporate and commercial matters as well as estate law. He is a member of the board of directors of many privately held and non profit corporations such as the Montreal General Hospital Corporation, the Cascade Golf and Tennis Club (where he is also the President) and The Order of Saint-John Quebec Council Foundation. He has also been the President of the Hillside Tennis Club and the Montreal Badminton and Squash Club (now The Atwater Club).
